Coming up for Air – Baby Here Soon!

Geesh! Time flies when you are doing lots of different things.

I took on some consulting hours to help an organization write their technology plan and have ended up taking on the clean up of their website. A content management system is used which is great and distributes work. But for the last 3 years there have been many transitions and all of the check points fell off the map. The front end just look tired and had some dead ends, some loops and some things that were conflicting- not too bad, but only because there were no viewers using much of it. The back end – out of control and very tangled. Becuase of their host and set up  – there isn’t a staging or development area. You can not publish things – but it makes the clean up of the back end even more tedious and error prone. So the only way is jump off the cliff and try to fly! So after a week of 12-16 hour days – I was ready for some sleep and a break.

First came my Happy Cow! A local paint and wine studio had a Friday afternoon session- so I signed up. When I got there I found out I was the only one and they didn’t cancel – so it would be me and Fred the instructor. Fred and I painted away and even finished 90 minutes sooner than was scheduled. I could have gone a little more leisurely – but it worked out fine.

Happy Cow!

I would like to do another one and work on a different type of eye, plus make the background a little brighter for some contrast.

Saturday morning – well started with some of the web grunt work – but just was not ready for it. My first grandchild’s due date is within this week- so I decided I needed to get the “Waiting” video done before arrival. Several months ago this had a lot of grand visions in my head – but I couldn’t get all I wanted. The plus was a weekly shot of Mom that shows the journey. We don’t know who the little person is – that will be a surprise for all until entry into the world. So excited!

Here is the video. I do want to get to more than just music and get more audio and narration in the family stories – but that is still evolving. Until then it is trying to find music that goes with the idea of the video. I have also begun to get better at keeping them to under 5 min. Any longer than that – no one wants to watch and they just go on. These are being placed in a flip book so each video created is separate and a reader can view, skip of view multiple times within the  book.

So – my #ds106 #4life friends – I am still creating – still learning from you, still growing my skills. And still tracking what you are all doing. One of you will soon have something that I won’t be able to pass up being a part of even if there are websites to clean up.

COW! TDC1520

Ever since the movie Twister – a family shout out is COW! – with a little twang and drawl added in. I don’t think we ever saw the full movie. And here it is 20 years later and we still say COW! ANOTHER COW! when we see one while on the road. Here is the 20 second clip.

So the Daily Create 1520 was Create a Cow GIF and all that kept going thru my mind was COW! Another COW!

Cows dancing, spinning, dreaming, all sorts of cows….here’s my COW Gif – keeping to the 20 minute limit on this one so not as smooth or detailed as a finished gif….

I found the California Happy Cow commercials on YouTube. Used the GifIt plugin and captured a cow mooing – exported the GIF and then imported it into Photoshop. Got rid of the twitchy frames and added a tween on the end. Added the text to go across all the frames – Done!

Here it is:

And then – a little out of practice of doing dailys – I put the wrong #number! So it landed in an ice cream prompt. Well – Cows make milk and cream that is needed for ice cream – so it could fit. 🙂

Design Week at the Bovine County FairyTale Festival

Celtic Series Poster

NanaLou is working with her granddaughter Rochelle, Cousin Ron, and the famous Headless Inkspots of #ds106 to pull together a Celtic musical performance on “The Porch”.

“The Porch” is where the adults gather at sunset after the children have had their story time and are settling in for the night. With the Fairy Tale Festival in full swing – performances and jam sessions are happening around the themes of the festival.

The Black-Spotted Maid performance is anxiously awaited. How it came to be? Well – NanaLou can tell you!

One thing I really appreciate about a network of people who collaborate is how I am pushed to reach for my best. I think that might be the case in just publishing for others to see as well – but when you have an active group it does help you to reach your best at the time.

I had an idea for this promo poster when @RockyLou22 posted she was working on it. I pulled something together at a late night hour and let the group know I was working on something…..

While I liked the bright colors and some other things – it was just quickly put together. On rare occasions you luck out and the first one is a charm – looking at this one, I needed to go back (and yet after it is all done – there are still some things I like about this version).

I pulled it up again to work on it in PhotoShop.

  • Open PNG file of NanaLou’s porch
  • Open Cow GIF in another file
  • Clear out background of cow pic
  • Smooth edges and clean up
  • Save, copy and paste into poster file as layer
  • Create a background layer – went with a pink to hint at sunset
  • Put background in as Dissolve and pattern
  • Blurred background
  • Used Filter – Clouds Made this base layer
  • Changed opacity on porch graphic to give it more of a late in the day feel
  • Added Text
  • Used  Warped Text Features to create titles lots of playing around!
  • oh…..and I followed NanaLou’s lead and installed a celtic looking font….
  • Went back in and cleared out more of the treehouse pic to give it more grounding and be able to see horizon line.
  • From there it was mostly moving, looking at things – tweaking – increasing the canvas size and images so there was more balance….

Glad I had others who would be looking at it as it pushed me to make it better!

I did do the first draft with a GIF of SuperMoo’s cape in the wind….still need to go back and do that! Ahhh!!! the pressure! But I love it!
